L. Cliff Gray |
Biography: My
known name is Cliff. I was born 1940, became a pharmacist, married
Isobel and we have a daughter and a son and one grand-daughter.
Isobel and I live 12Km from the town of Balclutha on a small block
where we enjoy "the country life". I
was puzzled and mystified by amateur radio from an early age,
particularly after my father purchased a 5 band shortwave radio in
the early 1950s. I lived in the country and had absolutely no idea
how to become involved myself. It was not until the 1970s that my
interest in electronics lead me to amateur radio. I obtained my
first license in 1976 and upgraded in 1979 and 1980. I
enjoy occasional contests but seldom compete seriously. I follow DX
periodically when my work load permits. I always respond to QSL
cards as quickly as possible - usually next day. QSL
cards received with SASE and postage are returned direct, all others
via buro. Other hobby interests
include golf, photography, music (mainly classical) and computing. A
major passion is fly fishing for trout. Our
town, Balclutha, is situated on the Clutha River and is on State
Highway 1 between the cities of Dunedin and Invercargill. It is a
service town for the surrounding district which is predominantly a
farming and forestry area. Please
listen for me on all bands from 3.5MHz to 50MHz, mainly during the
weekends or in the evenings (NZ time) during the week.
